Drop weight towers

For mono and multi axial impact tests

General description

The DW 1000 is a drop tower test system that performs mono-multi axial impact tests on products and speciments. The system allows to set impact energies ranging from 5 to 750J, allowing to test a wide range of products and materials, also thanks to the large volume of work available for the positioning of the sample.
The DW 1000 allows to perform both broken / notbroken tests and instrumented tests, in which acquires strength and energy absorbed during the impact.
The system is developed to be easily customized and upgarded in order to meet current and future requirements of the client.
All versions of DW 1000 are equipped with a direct reading of speed, automatic recovery and positioning system of the weight.
A wide range of standard accessories is available. For special requirements STEP Lab is ready to collaborate with the customer.

Common Application areas

  • Testing of products (i.e. equipment and ski boots, snowboards and skating; automotive components)
  • Uniaxial and multiaxial tests on specimens, i.e. impact test according to ISO 6603-2, ASTM D 3763, ASTM D 3029 (Method B), ISO 8256 A, CAI test Boeing BSS 7260 and Airbus AITM 1.0010, Charpy ISO 179 test (other test upon request)

Features

  • Wide and accessible test area (H 500 x W 500 x D 600 mm)
  • Easy to use thanks to an intuitive user interface
  • Test management via software
  • High security due to the blocking system of the doors activated when the test starts
  • Pneumatic system for the release of the drop weight
  • Automated lifting and positioning of the weight
  • Drop height varying from 0.05 to 1.3 m, set via software
  • Impact velocity from 0.2 to 5.0 m/s (up to 7m/s with spring preload system)
  • Weights from 0.5 to 10 kg, for a total of 70 kg
  • Acquisition of impact speed at 200 kHz
  • Acquisition rate (load signal) up to 3.5 MHz
  • Designed for integration with many accessories
  • Rapid transition from ISO to ASTM test rigs and vice versa
  • Easy integration with climatic chamber

Starting from the basic mechanical and software structure of the machine, further accessories for impacts on all types of components are easily available. Below are the accessories currently in the catalogue.

  • The debounce system holds up the drop weight thus preventing further secondary impacts affect the physical state of the sample / product.
